De Beers has awarded $4,500 scholarships to three women from the Northwest Territories (NWT) as part of its initiative to support women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
The 2025 scholarship recipients are Aubrey Sluggett from Yellowknife, Madison Menacho-Melnyk from Norman Wells, and Symone Berube, who resides in Yellowknife but was raised in Fort Smith.
As per Cabin Radio[1], Sluggett is pursuing a health science degree at the University of Waterloo, with plans to return to the North as a doctor specializing in women’s health. Menacho-Melnyk is studying environmental and conservation sciences at Yukon University, becoming the first in her family to attend post-secondary education. Berube, currently studying neuroscience at York University, aims to explore broader educational opportunities while maintaining her connection to the North.
