Tiffany & Co. has taken to its social media and New York Times advertising space to publish a statement urging U.S. President Donald Trump to reconsider his stance on leaving the Paris Climate Change Agreement. Trump pledged to cancel the United Nations accord while campaigning last year.
While the move is garnering attention, with more than 21,000 reactions and 2,400 shares on Facebook, the comments are divided.
One reader posts, “I’m more concerned with ISIS and when my jewellery repair will be done… can you please have someone call me? It’s been two weeks.” Another says, “Please keep your political opinions out of my retail choices.”
In response, however, a commenter defends the retailer’s public expression by posting, “Or you can shop elsewhere. Thanks Tiffany & Co. for standing up for common sense and sanity which seems to be lacking among some of your other customers!”
Trump will announce his decision later this month after attending the G7 summit of world leaders.
