The Jewellery Symposium (TJS), an annual international event dedicated to advancing jewellery manufacturing technology, will take place from May 17 to May 20, 2025, at the Detroit Marriott Troy. This year’s symposium will emphasize new jewellery technologies and sustainability, featuring discussions on traceable gemstones, responsible sourcing, and cutting-edge innovations in jewellery production, such as additive manufacturing and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in design.

In addition to its traditional focus on metallurgy and craftsmanship, TJS 2025 will explore the growing importance of sustainable practices within the industry. Topics such as the responsible supply chain and the traceability of coloured gemstones will be highlighted by experts in the field.

TJS Chairman of the Board, Linus Drogs, commented on the event, stating, “We had an unprecedented number of proposals and abstracts for 2025, and we are delighted that many of our respected presenters will be focusing on timely and important issues like sustainability and technology. We are grateful to the experts who will be sharing the latest information on CAD, AI, and additive manufacturing (3-D printing), as well as the group of professionals focused on sustainability-related to a responsible supply chain and the tracing of coloured gemstones.”

Among the scheduled presentations, Scott Bradford of Gesswein will discuss CAD techniques for enhancing jewellery design, and Jenny Luker of Platinum Guild International (PGI) will introduce a newly developed platinum alloy. Additionally, consultant Anne Miller will focus on generative AI, while Joseph Strauss of HJE Company, Inc. will cover advances in additive manufacturing through sinter-based 3D printing. On the sustainability front, Eric Branwaurt of Columbia Gem House and consultant Frank Cooper will examine the traceability of coloured gemstones.
