TrendVision 2014: Hot styles your customers will be looking for

Precious and non-precious combinations, aristocratic flairs, and neon colours are a few of the styles trends prognosticator Paola De Luca says will be a hit with fashion-savvy shoppers.

Speaking at VicenzaOro ‘Winter’ last month, De Luca presented TrendVision 2014, an 18-month look ahead at the hottest designs manufacturers should keep in mind when creating upcoming collections.

As VicenzaOro’s official forecasting centre, TrendVision is a full-time think-tank that provides businesses with insight into consumer behaviour as it affects style, products, and markets.

“The word ‘trend’ is very often associated with fashion,” said De Luca, who serves as TrendVision’s creative director. “And fashion reflects contemporary life.”

According to De Luca, there are five consumer profiles to consider.

The ‘minimalist’ encompasses generation Y (i.e. 20 to 35 year olds) and generation X (i.e. 35 to 55 year olds) who are price-conscious and, therefore, buying quality, collectable pieces that can be personalized, such as bead jewellery. Chunky but soft links will be in demand, as well as layers of long chains. Coloured and oxidized metals will also appeal to this consumer group, along with fabric-like pieces, ceramic jewellery and wood designs incorporating semi-precious gemstones, and non-precious materials accented with diamonds.

2. The ‘creative’ consumer is very young, eager to spend money to keep up with trends, and fascinated by technology and design. Colour is key for this group, as are unusual gemstone cuts. Diamond-accented enamel pieces, layered chains, and micro-pavé designs are also expected to be strong sellers.

3. The ‘authentic’ shopper is older and sophisticated and looking for product inspired by local flair and crafted nearby. Recycled metals and gemstone pieces are favoured by this group, as well as sliced diamonds, hammered gold, organic shapes, cages and nets, and large medallions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ssp11641nk-a4. The ‘nostalgic’ is fascinated by cinematography and history, their taste in jewellery leaning toward vintage esthetics, appliqué, carved gemstones, and filigree. Oversized necklaces, cameos, and teardrop shapes are also strongly associated with this group.

5. The ‘Bohemian’ is artsy and a nomad at heart. Sliced agate or minerals, embroidery and textile, leather, weaving, talismans, and amulets resonate with this group, as do charms, rosary chains, ancient coins, and tassels.
