Workplace safety is a priority at Umicore Precious Metals Canada, and now it has a certificate to prove it.
The Markham, Ont.-based company has achieved the OHSAS 18001 certificate for its occupational health and safety management system.
The certification is part of the Umicore’s global sustainability objectives, which includes achieving zero lost-time accidents by 2015.
“Our site has an excellent track record with over 10 years without lost time accidents,” said Thomas Jansseune, Umicore’s managing director. “This certification is a sign of our commitment to a safe workplace, and is very important for our employees and their families.”
A member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), Umicore Precious Metals Canada is already certified against International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001-2008, Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001-2004, Environmental Management Systems. Its Butterfly recycled gold program has also been certified by SCS Global Services.
