Umicore Precious Metals Canada and Trees 4 Life Canada have partnered up to teach children about the importance of trees and the environment.

Umicore Precious Metals Canada is doing its part to spread the environmental word to Canada’s youth.

The Markham, Ont.-based company is partnering up with Trees 4 Life Canada, a charity run by volunteers that creates engaging environmental education programs.

Umicore’s donation will help provide teachers’ manuals, student workbooks, and Grow a Tree project kits for elementary students in the Toronto area.

“As part of its global sustainability objectives, Umicore supports a number of worthwhile causes with a specific focus on education and children’s welfare,” said Thomas Jansseune, managing director of Umicore Precious Metals Canada.

“We are particularly excited about this program because we are able to specifically sponsor the elementary schools that our employees’ children attend. This helps to increase the environmental awareness among our employees.”

Trees 4 Life Canada president Radha Zaidi says Umicore’s donation will go a long way to helping children learn about the significance of trees and the environment.

“This is especially important as we hope to have more than 100,000 students participating in the program this year,” he said. “We are very happy to have partnered with Umicore in this meaningful way.”
