Umicore makes list of most ethical companies

Belgian materials technology group Umicore has been named one of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” by EthiSphere.

Dedicated to the creation and sharing of best practices in business ethics and corporate social responsibility, EthiSphere recognizes companies that “not only promote ethical business standards and practices internally, they exceed legal compliance minimums and shape future industry standards by introducing best practices today.”

Umicore is parent company of Imperial Smelting and Refining in Markham, Ont. This year, a record 145 organizations made the list. The ranking is based on seven key performance indicators:

• citizenship and responsibility;
• corporate governance;
• innovation that contributes to public well-being;
• industry leadership;
• internal systems and ethics compliance program;
• a legal, regulatory, and reputational track record; and
• executive leadership.
