Demand is strong for coloured diamonds and one-of-a-kind treasures, if the results of Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers[2]’ recent sale are anything to go by.
At the company’s Spring Important Jewels auction[3], which was held online June 15 to 22, several items with such distinction performed exceptionally well against pre-sale estimates.
Among the top lots was a 1.35-carat European-cut blue diamond, which sold for $400,000, exceeding its pre-sale estimation of $90,000 to $120,000.
Other pieces to receive interest include a Mario Buccellati aquamarine and diamond two-tone gold bangle bracelet, which sold for $44,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $20,000 to $30,000, and a diamond and platinum ring by Raymond Yard, which achieved $150,000 (pre-sale estimate: $70,000 to $90,000).
“We’ve noted an increasing desire to acquire the rare and unusual, and an auction provides the best opportunity,” says Jewellery Business columnist Duncan Parker[4], vice-president of Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers. “A rare blue diamond or an exceptional diamond in a ring by famed American jeweller Raymond Yard may only appear occasionally. [Buyers] from around the world bring strong bidding and excellent results, overall.”
