Vancouver designer and goldsmith Benée Rubin is lending a helping hand to the YWCA’s Crabtree Corner, a centre in support of marginalized women and families living in Vancouver’s downtown east side.
Ten per cent of all items in her new ‘East Van Cross’ collection will go to toward the facility, which is located in one of Vancouver’s poorest neighbourhoods.
Rubin has lived in Vancouver’s east side and wanted to use her talent as a master goldsmith and designer to help the women and children in her own neighbourhood. As a long-time supporter of the YWCA, and a single mother herself, she decided Crabtree Corner was the perfect fit.
“I was so moved when I visited Crabtree Corner, I just knew I had to do something to help,” said Rubin. “I don’t think there’s anything that says East Van better than the decades-old East Van Cross. The idea of interpreting it for my Creations for Crabtree Corner seemed natural.”
The centre houses a range of programs and services under one roof to help women and children in the area feel safer and less isolated, as well as be healthier and more empowered to make positive choices.
“Crabtree Corner is a special place that provides much-needed services for women and families in the community. By surrounding women with holistic supports, we help them move forward in their lives,” said Chantelle Krish, manager of public relations at the YWCA Metro Vancouver.
“We are grateful to Benée Rubin for recognizing the positive impact of Crabtree Corner and her desire to support Crabtree Corner financially.”
