The former president of the United Nations’ General Assembly paid tribute to Fiera di Vicenza for its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) values and practices.

“Let me also recognize Fiera di Vicenza, its president Matteo Marzotto, and managing director, Corrado Facco, who are working with CIBJO to involve the jewellery industry in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) program,” said Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser in his speech at CIBJO’s Congress. “These types of partnerships are absolutely essential in helping build stronger and more sustainable societies.”

Held earlier this month in Salvador, Bahia, Congress brought together members of national jewellery and precious stone associations from more than 40 countries and representatives of major industry companies from around the world.

Other notable figures in attendance included CIBJO president Gaetano Cavalieri; Eduardo Braga, minister of mines and energy of the Republic of Brazil; Rui Costa, governor of the State of Bahia; and Hécliton Santini Henriques, president of Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals (IBGM).

“The words of the president of the UN General Assembly are, for Fiera di Vicenza, a source of great pride and gratification,” Facco said. “For us, they represent an important accolade because the main institutional body of the UN recognizes and appreciates the strong commitment of our company, thanks, too, to collaboration with CIBJO, regarding a very topical issue of primary importance like that of corporate social responsibility, to which we have given our keen attention for many years. These words, together with our participation in this Congress, prompt us to continue with even more determination along a path that sees Fiera di Vicenza play a lead role, not only as a business hub, but also as a cultural hub for the jewellery industry worldwide.”
