The ‘Paraiba Star of the Ocean Jewels’ necklace features a 191.87-carat Paraiba tourmaline.

A nearly 200-carat Paraiba tourmaline is the centrepiece of a necklace created by Montreal retailer, Kaufmann de Suisse.

Measuring 36.44 x 33.75 x 21.85 mm, the ‘Ethereal Carolina Divine Paraiba’ is an untreated, flawless modified brilliant-cut oval gem. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the stone as the largest of its kind at 191.87 carats, shattering the previous record of just under 51.77 carats.

It sits in the ‘Paraiba Star of the Ocean Jewels’ necklace, a one-of-a-kind piece designed by Kaufmann de Suisse company president and managing partner, Moneca Kaufmann.

“Possession of this gem will have historical significance, a privilege traditionally reserved for royalty and the ultra-wealthy,” Kaufmann said at a press conference to unveil the necklace.

“The future owner of this marvelous piece will experience the pleasure and pride of wearing an incomparable named jewel and may also enjoy the effects of metaphysical properties that are claimed to be present in tourmaline, particularly concentrated in one of such magnitude.”Â

The necklace features numerous sea creatures fashioned from pink, blue, yellow, and orange sapphires, emeralds, rubies, rubellite garnets, diamonds, and other gems. It comprises 1706 stones, including a 10.73-carat brilliant yellow canary diamond.
