A rough yellow diamond weighing 163.91 carats has been recovered from Gem Diamonds’ Letšeng Diamond Mine in Lesotho.
Found June 22, the “impressive” rough stone marks the second diamond larger than 100 carats unearthed from the site this year. This past March, an exceptional 122-carat D-colour Type II white diamond was recovered from the same mine.
Once known for producing a large supply of rough diamonds over 100 carats, Letšeng has seen a dip in recent years, Rapaport reports. Last year, Gem Diamonds recovered four diamonds in this group, as compared to six in 2021 and 16 in 2020.
