The Zimbabwe Diamond Conference will be held Nov. 12 to 13 at Victoria Falls.

Zimbabwe’s civil society coalition says it will participate in discussions at that country’s diamond conference.

Being held from Nov. 12 to 13 at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, the gathering will bring together players from across the diamond industry, including Kimberley Process (KP) chair Gillian Milovanovic. Representatives of the KP Civil Society Coalition—Shamiso Mtisi and Tafadzwa Musarara—will debate on the topic of diamonds and beneficiation with Godwills Masimirembwa, chair of the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corp., and Abbey Chikane, KP monitor for Zimbabwe.

“We expect to have open and frank discussions with all participants at this high-profile event,” said Richard Mvududu, chair of the Diamond Beneficiation Association of Zimbabwe and a speaker at the conference. “Our common goal is to propel Zimbabwe’s diamond mining sector forward and to assure it will be an engine that will advance the Zimbabwe economy, and bring prosperity for all the people of Zimbabwe.”

Prince Mupazviriho, permanent secretary of mines and mining development of Zimbabwe, said the conference is a step forward in the country’s future as a diamond producer.

“It is encouraging to see that so many people actually want to engage in a conference about how to unlock Zimbabwe’s diamond potential together. We look forward to lively debates that will deal with every subject of importance to our future diamond trading.”
