Depending on the treatment process, treated gems may not be durable in routine situations—such as normal jewellery wear and cleaning—and may be even more vulnerable to more extreme procedures such as heating during jewellery repairs.

Jewelers Mutual and GIA launch new gemmology scholarship

Jewellery industry insurance provider Jewelers Mutual has collaborated with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to unveil the Ron Harder Gemological Scholarship. This initiative to support the education and development of future gemmologists offers a US$50,000 (approx. C$68,160) scholarship. The award will be disbursed over a period of five years, providing US$10,000 (approx. C$13,630) annually to recipients.
