GJEPC stands firm: No further moratoriums amid market challenges

In response to the 2023 downturn, the Indian trade organization Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and four other Indian industry bodies had recommended a voluntary two-month moratorium on rough diamond imports from Oct. 15 to Dec. 15, 2023. This year, despite the current market slump, GJEPC have confirmed they will not be implementing a similar measure. Instead, the organization wishes to focus on promoting demand.

GJEPC delegation visits Latin America

A delegation from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) recently toured Brazil, Colombia, and Panama to explore markets, boost India’s exports, and strengthen economic ties in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region. From May 21 to 29, the group led by GJEPC chairman Kirit Bhansali, worked to bolster India’s gems and jewellery exports by building stronger economic ties and facilitating collaborative opportunities in Latin America, thereby driving growth in the Indian gems and jewellery sector.
